Welcome

     Shaviance Mitchell, daughter of Cassandra Gillens, is formally educated in the visual arts, obtaining the majority of her education from South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, now living in the Low Country of South Carolina.  Having experienced life in Boston, Massachusetts down the coast to Key West, Florida, Shaviance’s memories of her life along the East Coast moves her to paint the visions of Life along the East Coast, as well as the Low Country’s comforting southern culture.

      When asked, Why did you choose visual arts, out of your many talents? She responded, "I did not choose visual arts, it choose me at birth. No matter how much I tried to stray away from it, it  kept finding its way back into my life. Art is not what  I do but it is who I am. It is forever transforming my ability to see life as it chooses, it is with great honor allows me to share with others the many ways in which I see the world."

      Also when asked, How long have you been working with watercolor? She responded with a smile, "Five months, watercolors works better with me and I with it. For me it is one on those mediums that does the work for me, I attempt to give it some direction, theme, and structure, but when all is said; it really does what it wants to do, and I am fine with that.
